Ana Belén Méndez, midwife, Marbella

Pregnancy, birth and postpartum are not events to manage. They are a body learning a new language. My job is to translate, with you, in your time.

Ana Belén Méndez · Registered Midwife

I — About

Integral care through your journey to motherhood.

I'm Ana Belén. From a young age the idea of becoming a midwife inspired me. It was Teresa, a passionate now-retired midwife with small, steady hands, who showed me this world full of life and made me fall in love with it. In 2007 I qualified as a midwife at the University of York, in the United Kingdom.

After years of practice I came back to Spain. Almost twenty years on, I have worked across hospitals and primary care, both public and private, accompanying women in pregnancy, birth and postpartum, in Spanish and in English.

My complementary training shapes how I work: more than 15 years teaching Hatha, prenatal and postnatal yoga; certified in acupuncture and moxibustion since 2017; a long path as a breastfeeding consultant from the very start of my career; trained in hypnobirthing, meditation and the SOMA method for psycho-emotional preparation; pilates for pregnancy and the AIPAP aquatic method; infant massage and infant first aid for postpartum baby care.

Today I practise in the labour ward at Hospital Costa del Sol, alongside private antenatal and postnatal care in clinic and at home.

Slow care

Care that slows down.

A calm, private setting. Time to ask everything. Continuity from one visit to the next. The opposite of a rushed appointment.

II — Services

Six ways to be accompanied.

Maternal education

Four structured sessions covering pregnancy, alarm signs, birth plan, breathing techniques, breastfeeding, newborn care and the transition during the first weeks. Small groups or one to one.

Prenatal yoga

An ancient practice adapted to every trimester and every physical condition. It connects you with your baby and prepares body and mind through deep body and breath awareness.

Yoga-pilates & AIPAP

A blended programme for core and pelvic-floor preparation, using the AIPAP method validated in Spanish hospitals.

Acupuncture & moxibustion

Protocols adapted to typical pregnancy disorders, with moxibustion to encourage fetal turning in cases of malposition or breech. Sterile, single-use needles.

Postpartum & lactation

Home or clinic visits. Perineal or abdominal wound check, latch and breastfeeding assessment, sleep, mood, newborn review, umbilical cord, weight gain and follow-up.

Private consultation

A 60 to 90-minute appointment for second opinions, doubts, birth plan, anxiety, or simply to be heard. Bilingual.

IV — Voices

Voices

From the first appointment in pregnancy I felt heard. Ana Belén explained what was happening in my body and gave me time to ask, without rushing. I arrived at every check-up with fewer fears and more information.
A. · Marbella · 2025
Prenatal yoga gave me a body that breathed instead of one that braced. Every week I felt more at home with my pregnancy.
C. · Estepona · 2025
In the first weeks at home she came over, checked my recovery and the baby, watched a feed and answered every doubt. Bilingual, evidence-based, no judgement.
